California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) was the recipient of the Campus Safety, Health and Environmental Management Association (CHESMA) Innovation Award for their leading-edge implementation of INGENIUM’s INTOENERGY Program. The award is granted annually following rigorous review by CHESMA for outstanding programs and innovations on higher education campuses. The Innovation Award in particular, recognizes Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) programs that have successfully reduced costs, increased revenues or improved environment and developed or created a sustainability initiative in response to a campus need. This program can be replicated and utilized by any institution to divert waste from the landfill and increase energy output while supporting a sustainable environment.
“Partnering with INGENIUM’s INTOENERGY program has added another element of pride for CSUSM. The program enabled us to win the national Campus Safety, Health and Environmental Management Association’s (CHESMA) 2016 Innovation Award of Distinction. INTOENERGY was a no-brainer for the campus’ growing academic research activities; enabling us to divert more than 40% of our bio-hazardous waste from the landfill, which will help the campus meet our Zero Waste by 2025 sustainability goal.” – Juliana Goodlaw-Morris, Sustainability Manager, CSUSM
