EHS Audits – Looking behind the curtains!

When is the last time you had a 3rd party review your EHS program? The start of the year is a great time to have an outside party and some fresh eyes perform an EHS Audit of your facility. These audits can vary greatly in scope but, in general, should include a site visit and a document review.

The site visit gives the auditor an opportunity to see your program in action. For example, things like chemical labeling and storage, the condition of safety equipment, egress routes, hazardous waste labeling and storage and many other items.

The document review provides a close look at the written plans and training programs in compliance with OSHA regulations, as well as on the recordkeeping in compliance with various environmental regulations. Some would say the best part of the external audit is having a separate set of eyes look at something that the auditees (yes…that’s a word!) might take for granted because they deal with it everyday.

The time allotted for an EHS Audit will depend on whether you want a full EHS Audit, just a site visit and, of course, the size of your facility. At the end of the audit, you should receive a report documenting findings, potential regulatory citations for the findings and suggested corrective actions.

Whatever your needs are, INGENIUM is here to help! With our recent acquisition of WSR Environmental Services, our EHS Specialists are well equipped to perform a detailed audit and provide recommendations based on their findings.
