Weekly Safety Tip.Be safe, hydrate! Here are some tips to stay hydrated during the hot summer months:1. Drink plenty of water throughout the day. A suggested amount is 8 8-oz glasses per day, but that would vary depending on the amount of exercise or other activities that would cause you to become more dehydrated.2. Know the signs of dehydration (dry or itchy skin, headache or dizzy, fatigue, muscle cramps, rapid breathing or not urinating.)3. Pay attention to the color or your urine to be sure it is a light, straw color. Dark urine is an indication of dehydration.4. Avoid alcohol, sugary drinks and caffeine.5. Avoid overheating by wearing loose fitting, lightweight clothing. Wear a hat. Schedule playing sports at cooler times of the day. Mist yourself with water.6. Eat foods with high water content such as cucumbers, celery, tomatoes, radishes, peppers, watermelon, cauliflower, spinach and strawberries. All these contain 90% water or higher.7. Don’t love water? Try adding a bit of flavor by adding a squeeze of lemon or lime, a slice of cucumber or orange, a few berries or a spritz of mint. Avoid artificial sweeteners or preservatives.
