Avoid Credit Card Fraud During the Holidays!

Protect yourself from holiday scammers and credit card thieves during the holidays by following these safety tips!

  1. Secure your devices and networks with a firewall or other security software.
  2. Limit the number of credit cards you use to make purchases.
  3. Make sure your credit card is signed and that your PIN number is not stored in your wallet or another non-secure location.
  4. Review your credit card statements frequently to check for fraudulent activity.
  5. Shop only on websites with https: in the web address – the “S” stands for secure.
  6. Safeguard your passwords and change them frequently.
  7. Don’t shop on public WIFI.
  8. Beware of “too good to be true” deals.
  9. Don’t respond to emails asking you for your account number or personal information, including login and password.
  10. Think carefully before opening new store credit cards.
  11. Be careful with receipts that might include an account number.
  12. Never give your card number over the phone unless you have initiated the phone call to a trusted source.
  13. Shop at established businesses that you are familiar with or can contact easily.
  14. Sign up for paperless statements to avoid sensitive information being sent through the mail.
  15. Report a lost card or fraudulent charge to your bank or card issuer immediately.
  16. Use common sense when making any type of online or credit card purchase.
