This class is required annually for employees who work with or around hazardous materials, hazardous wastes, and biohazardous materials including BBP. (8 CCR 5191/5193/5194, 22 CCR 66262.34(a)(4), 66265.16)
This class covers the following topics to help your laboratory personnel satisfy their annual training requirements in the following areas: 1) Hazard Communication and Chemical Hygiene standards; Chemical hazards; Chemical handling; Safety Data Sheets (SDS); Globally Harmonized System (GHS) for classifying and labeling chemicals; Chemical labeling; PPE; Chemical storage; spill response. 2) Federal and California specific hazardous waste requirements, and general information on pertinent regulations; Definitions of hazardous, universal, and medical waste in the State of California; Labeling, segregation, and container management for hazardous and universal waste; Storage limits for hazardous waste; Response to hazardous and universal waste releases, including contacting outside emergency agencies. 3) General awareness regarding medical waste & Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP) safety, including Other Potentially Infectious Material (OPIM), universal precautions, clean up, exposure response, and waste disposal.
